The goalkeeper of the football team of Montenegro, Matija Šarkić, died this morning in Budva at the age of 27.
As Vijesti has learned, he fell ill in the apartment where he was staying, after which he died.
A few days ago, Matija Šarkić impressed the public with his saves in a friendly match with Belgium in Brussels, but after that he missed the match against Georgia in Podgorica.
After the match against Belgium, the Spanish "Marka" highlighted the performance of the Montenegrin goalkeeper, writing in the text that the "devils" encountered the "star Šarkic".
Matija was born in 1997 in Grimsby. He started his career in the younger categories of Anderlecht, and then in 2015 he went to the younger categories of Aston Villa.
That's when his career on the Island began - after Aston Villa, Sarkic played for Wigan, Stratford, Livingston, Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury, Birmingham, Stoke and Millwall.
He arrived in Millwall in August last year - he played a total of 33 games, and in 12 he did not concede a goal and was one of the best players of the "lions" this season.
As the first goalkeeper of Milvola, he gained great sympathy with his games, both from the club and the fans.
He went through the junior representative selections of the national football team of Montenegro, and he made his debut for the A team against Belarus in a friendly match in 2019, under coach Faruk Hadžibegić.
He played nine games for the "Brave Falcons", and excelled in the last one against Belgium.
His twin brother Oliver played for Dečić the previous season and was one of the most deserving of the club from Tuzi's title.
