Prosinečki: Šarka will cheer us on from heaven, we will miss him at every gathering, at every match we will think of him

The head coach of the Montenegrin national football team, Robert Prosinečki, was shocked by the news of the sudden death of the goalkeeper of our national team, Matija Šarkić.

Montenegrin football is shrouded in black, the 26-year-old goalkeeper died early this morning in an apartment in Budva, where he was spending his vacation after a busy season.

Šarkić played nine games for the national team of Montenegro, the game against Belgium in Brussels 10 days ago was the best in his career in the national team, in which he played in all age categories.

"It's hard for me to talk, it's hard to say anything... I'm still in disbelief, I still can't accept that it actually happened, that Matija is no longer with us... A great guy, a human boulder, an example for everyone. A great goalkeeper , I can say world class and we were all looking forward to many of his performances in the future... The work ethic that adorned him was a guarantee that Matija would reach the heights he deserved. Unfortunately, fate was stronger than his dedication and commitment to the work he was doing. Matija will be remembered by all of us in the national team as a smiling giant, a "boy" full of optimism and a positive spirit. We will miss him at every gathering, at every training session, and at every game we play Cheer from heaven. My sincere condolences to the Šarkic family. Rest in peace, dear Matija," said Prosinečki.
