Mamardashvili signs for Liverpool and returns to Valencia on a one-year loan

Liverpool Football Club is close to signing goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.

As reported by Sky, Liverpool offered an initial 30 million euros and another five million through bonuses for the Georgian goalkeeper, who would probably stay on loan in Valencia until the end of the season.

Sky reported that Mamardashvili went on loan to Bournemouth as part of the negotiations last week, but the 23-year-old goalkeeper expressed his desire to stay at the Spanish club until the end of the season.

According to Sky, the potential signing of Mamardashvili has no bearing on the current goalkeeping situation at Anfield.

Alison Becker will remain the first goalkeeper, but the Liverpool board are considering other goalkeepers for the day the Brazilian decides to leave the club or retire, and Mamardashvili (23) is someone they believe has great potential.

Reserve goalkeeper is Kevin Keleher.

Mamardashvili was one of the best players at the European Championship in Germany this summer and helped Georgia reach the round of 16 for the first time in its history.

In the summer of 2021, he moved from Dinamo Tbilisi to Valencia, for which he played 100 games and kept a clean sheet in 31 matches.

If the transfer goes through, it will be Liverpool's first signing since the arrival of new coach Arne Slott and sporting director Richard Hughes.

Liverpool believed they were close to signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, but he changed his mind and decided to stay at the Spanish club.
