Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo will receive a "special recognition" on Thursday during the draw for the Champions League in Monaco, the competition in which he holds the goalscoring record, the European Football Union (Uefa) announced today.
With 140 goals scored in 183 matches in European tournaments, the 39-year-old forward Ronaldo has 11 more goals than arch-rival Argentina's Lionel Messi and 46 more than Poland's Robert Lewandowski.
Ronaldo, a five-time winner of the tournament - once with Manchester United (2008) and four times with Real Madrid (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018) - has been playing for Saudi club Al-Nasr since January 2023, with whom he won the Arab Club Champions Cup.
Ronaldo "also holds the record for the longest scoring streak" in the Champions League, "with 11 consecutive goals from June 2017 to April 2018," UEFA said in a statement.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner also scored 17 goals during the 2013-1014 premiership with Real Madrid, his record in a single season.
