The young football team of Montenegro played matches in Nikšić, even the young selection of SCG in 2003 appeared in the qualifiers for the European Championship in the city under Trebjes (defeated Azerbaijan 3:0, scorers Bošković, Milovanović and Radonjić), but it was never an A team host at the Sutjeske stadium.
Until tonight, when it was the turn of the duel between Montenegro and Wales in the second round of the B League of Nations.
A match that the people of Nikšić have been waiting for a long time, a match that has been talked about in this city for days. And jubilee - the 150th game that the "falcons" played since gaining independence.
Even the heavy rain that started to fall at around 14 pm, then stopped, and then continued again at a lower intensity around 19 pm, did not reduce the euphoria...
Fans of the "Brave Falcons" gathered in Nikšić's bars and on Freedom Square, where they warmed up the atmosphere before the 90 minutes near Bistrica, and shortly after 19 p.m. they headed to the stadium with torches, songs and fan colors.
It was at those moments that our selection arrived at the stadium, and a little later the Welsh - Tottenham footballer Ben Davis, with the applause of the visiting fans, came out to "feel" the field, followed by other players, led from the bench by a former footballer, among other things , Newcastle, Liverpool, Celtic and Manchester City - Craig Bellamy.
"Dragons" fans were located in the reconstructed western stand. Some arrived in Nikšić during the day, and a large part of them remained in Podgorica...
After the guests, the "falcons" came onto the field, followed by applause from the fans and chants - "play for Matija".
The fans in the eastern stand unfurled a large banner that read - Matija Šarkić, in honor of the deceased national team player. His teammates from yesterday came out on the field in jerseys with the number 13 worn by Matija...
Nikšić readily welcomed the spectacle and, as expected, gave great support to the national team.
