The legal commission of the French football league today invited the footballer Kylian Mbappe and his former club Paris Saint-Germain to agree to mediate in the dispute over salaries and bonuses, the Paris club announced.
The management of Paris Saint-Germain and Mbappe's representatives met in Paris, after the French international asked the commission to get involved. Mbape moved to Real Madrid as a free agent this summer, after his contract with the Parisian club expired.
He claims that Paris Saint-Germain owes him 55 million euros.
Paris Saint-Germain said in a statement that it was satisfied with the two-hour hearing before the commission and recalled that Mbappe had previously made "clear, publicly reiterated and private commitments that must be respected, as he received unprecedented benefits from the club during seven fantastic years in Paris."
The club claimed that it does not owe the footballer any money after the agreement with Mbappe that he will give up the bonus when he is returned to the team, from which he was removed before the start of last season because he refused to extend his contract.
The Paris club said that the legal commission of the French league has proposed a mediator and that Paris Saint-Germain has been asking for it for months.
Mbape said goodbye to the club at the end of last season amid great tensions. In Paris Saint-Germain, they feel that they have been let down because the 25-year-old footballer had the richest contract in the club's history, and Mbappe was frustrated because the management did not fulfill their promises to bring players crucial for good results.
When he signed the new contract in 2022, Mbappe was holding the shirt with the number 2025 at the conference. He was reportedly annoyed because the contract was until 2024, with the possibility of continuing the cooperation for another year.
He surprised the club last June when he said that he would not exercise the option of continuing cooperation. Since his contract was entering the last year, Paris Saint-Germain wanted to sell him in order not to let him go for free, as a free agent.
Mbape was left out of the pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea last summer and had to train with secondary players. The club tried to sell him, but Mbappe rejected Al Hilal's offer of 300 million euros. Because of this, he missed the first game of last season, but he was still allowed to return to the team and finish the season, thus saying goodbye to the Parisian club.
