Maybe the start - mainly due to minor injuries - was not ideal, but Stefan Savić didn't need much to show Turkey what kind of class he is in defense...
The Montenegrin stopper, who arrived at Trabzonspor this summer, saved his first perfect game in his new club's jersey for the derby against Besiktas - although the club from the Black Sea played with ten players for practically the entire match, it was mainly thanks to Savić that he reached a big point (1:1).
"Savić and goalkeeper Ugurdžan Çakir had a practically perfect game," wrote the most widely circulated Turkish newspaper "Hurijet".
"From match to match, Savić is constantly improving his game, he brought firmness to Trabzon's defense," added "Trabzon Haber".
The boy who arrived in the north of Turkey after nine years in Atlético Madrid is already being vividly compared by the fans on social networks to an impassable "wall", and he showed his best against Beşiktaş.
As announced by the Turkish Opta, Savić had as many as 15 successful starts (blocked shots, sliding shots) against the club from Istanbul, a number that only two other players - Ugur Demirok and Mustafa Jumlu - had since such measurements were made in Trabzon.
Bešiktaš was normally a club with which Savić was often linked during the summer, but in the end the transfer did not happen. The vice president of the Istanbul club, Husejin Jucel, spoke about everything before Sunday's derby...
"I told our coach Giovanni van Bronkhorst that the reinforcement for the defense will be Gabrijal Paulista, and that we can also bring Savić. He answered: Paulista should definitely come, but Savić should not," revealed Jucel.
"It seems that Savić had a special motive for this match," wrote "Kuzej Ekspres".
A difficult period and a slow start seem to be behind Savić and Trabzon now, and the real things should still come now that Şenol Gunes has returned to the "Şenol Gunes" stadium - the legendary Turkish coach sat on the bench of the club from of his city.
