The European Football Union (UEFA) decided yesterday to deprive the "San Siro" stadium in Milan of hosting the final match of the Champions League in 2027.
Uefa asked the city authorities of Milan for guarantees that the stadium would be available at the time of the final, and since the city authorities could not give these guarantees, "Uefa decided not to award Milan the host and to reopen the bidding process to determine the appropriate venue".
The umbrella organization of European football also stated that it aims to choose the final venue by next June. The next two finals of the Champions League will be played in Munich and Budapest.
"San Siro", a stadium with a capacity of about 75.000 seats, has hosted the most important match of European club football four times (1965, 1970, 2001 and 2016).
