Stevan Jovetić has decided - his next club will be Omonia from Cyprus.
The team for which the Montenegrin representative Novica Eraković is playing sent an offer for Jo-Jo a few weeks ago, negotiations followed which, despite all the differences at the start, were successfully concluded.
On Sunday, Jovetić will travel to Nicosia and sign a contract for Omonia, probably for two years, as Cypriot media reported earlier.
Several clubs - from Cyprus, Israel, Saudi Arabia, but also Italy (Venice) were interested in Jovetic, even in recent days there was a sensational option of returning to Olympiakos, with which the best scorer in the history of the Montenegrin national team won the Conference League last season. .
And he will continue to play in the same competition, because Omonia won placement on the European stage.
Jovetić will therefore have a European challenge in the new environment.
What "ties" Jovetić to Cyprus? He scored three goals in two matches for Montenegro against the Cypriots four years ago in the Nations League (two away, one at home), but club football there is quite a bit above representative football, at least in recent years.
Omonia was the champion of Cyprus 21 times, the last time in 2021. The coach is Lithuanian Valdas Dambrauskas, who three years ago led Hajduk from Split.
Jovetić grew up in Mladosta, now OFK Titograd, and in his rich career he played for Partizan, Fiorentina, Manchester City, Inter, Sevilla, Monaco, Hertha and Olympiakos.
