UEFA President Aleksandar Čeferin emphasized that the European football annual calendar is filled to the limit and that there is no more space for new matches, but...
"We have to admit that the calendar of matches is filled to the last place. We have reached our limit. At the same time, clubs and players react to it differently. Some of them are overloaded. Others have empty "windows". To be honest, I stand by what I said before two months - there is no room for more games. Who is complaining? Those with the highest salaries and the clubs with only 25 players are not complaining," Ceferin said at the meeting of the European Association of Clubs.
UEFA and the European Club Association extended the cooperation agreement yesterday. The memorandum of understanding was signed in September last year, and is valid until 2033.
But the extension of the contract will allow UEFA and the Association to appoint a marketing and sales agency to manage the commercial rights in UEFA's men's club tournaments, including the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and representative EUROs, for the next two three-year cycles from 2027 to 2030 and from 2030. until 2033.
There will also continue to be joint management of the Women's Champions League and the new women's team tournament due to start next season.
"Our partnership with ECA is the foundation of an inclusive, sustainable and vibrant ecosystem that benefits the entire European football pyramid. Together we want to raise the global profile of UEFA's club competitions, while ensuring that clubs of all sizes in every region thrive on and off the pitch," Ceferin said.
