Manchester United footballers want Ruud van Nistelrooy to remain in the coaching staff when new coach Ruben Amorim takes over the team as their "connector", as they appreciate the way of communication and behavior towards them.
Sky Sport reported today that there is widespread support for the 48-year-old Dutchman to stay with the players in some capacity, after the period during which he was appointed as interim coach expires.
He replaced Erik ten Haag on the bench, who was fired in October due to poor results, and will lead the team until November 11, until Amorim, who is still with his club Sporting Lisbon, takes over.
Van Nistelrooy is extremely appreciative of United's management for the way they conduct themselves, along with those who help with the first team.
No decisions have been made on the composition of the new coach's coaching staff, but Amorim wants to bring in five colleagues from Sporting that he works with, including long-time assistants Carlos Fernandez and Adeli Candido, as well as the experienced Emanuel Fer.
Van Nistelrooy has a contract as an assistant coach and the question is whether he will have a place if all Amorim's associates from Sporting move to the club.
In addition to Van Nistelrooy, there is also a desire to stay Darren Fletcher, who is currently a coach in the coaching staff. He is the link between United's academy and the first team, having gone that way himself and played more than 20 games and won 300 trophies at "Old Trafford" in 13 years.
A Sky source said: "The work Fletcher is doing may not be in the limelight, but it is important."
United are currently 13th in the table and have won three of their first 10 games, which is the club's worst start in the Premier League.
