The women's cadet football team of Montenegro was defeated at the start of the tournament of the first round of qualifications for the European Championship.
Mirko Marić's team was defeated today in the Slovak town of Spišska Nova Ves, in the first round of Group B1, by Latvia 4:1.
Latvia was led to victory by Ekaterina Haritonova in the 11th, Keita Zviedre with goals in the 43rd and 45th and Kassandra Reina Džene in the 80th minute.
Ena Spahić scored the only goal for Montenegro in the 86th minute.
From the 55th minute, Latvia played with one less player, without the exclusion of Lizeta Dumiņa.
- The deciding factor was that we played a very bad first half, in which the players were timid practically from the start. In the second half, we took the initiative, however, we were not concrete enough in the end of the attack, said coach Mirko Marić.
Montenegro will play Georgia in the second round on Friday, while three days later they will meet Slovakia.
Placement in League A, that is, the second round of qualifications, will be provided by the first-placed selection, as well as the best second-placed team from all six groups.
