Two more games and that's it from the Montenegrin footballers for 2024 - it's an understatement to say that our national team failed in a year in which it lost six out of eight matches (and that in a row, four of which were in competitive duels), but if nothing secondly, Robert Prosinecki's chosen ones want to show in the last 180 minutes that they have learned something from previous failures.
Four defeats in the B League of Nations and the last place in the standings say it all, Montenegro was neither good enough nor organized enough to get some benefit despite all the injuries that did not bypass them this time either - Iceland, Wales, Turkey and Wales again were better.
That is why the situation is such that the "brave falcons" will play on Saturday and Tuesday in Nikšić - against the Icelanders and the Turks - if only to avoid direct relegation to the C category.
Maybe there is a place for our selection at this moment, but the sporting ambition certainly exists - it obliges the Montenegrin team to do everything to move from scratch...
Iceland is the first of the two opponents, but everything depends on that game - it has to be won in order for the part with Turkey to bring competitive significance at all, although for Montenegro after four defeats and at least two very pale games (in Reykjavik and Cardiff) before each game motivation must be at its maximum - whether it is important for the table or not...
"We didn't win a single point, and we certainly deserved more in the previous four matches. We have to turn to Iceland and it's time for the first points. It's not pleasant when you lose four matches in a row, I believe we will improve the impression", said winger Driton Camaj.
It was the footballer from Hungarian Kišvarda who was the only scorer in this cycle for Montenegro - he hit the Wales net on September 9 in a 2:1 defeat in Nikšić. It was without a doubt the best match of our team in the group, even though after three minutes it lost 2:0 with goals from Kiefer Moore and Harry Wilson...
"I always liked to play at the stadium in Nikšić. I hope that I will also score a goal now, although it is more important that we win. After all the defeats, the self-confidence is shaken, but there is always motivation when playing for the national team", added Camaj.
In the first match, Iceland was better 2:0 - Montenegro lost that game cheaply, conceding both goals in stoppage time.
"We analyzed that game. The Icelanders gave us two goals from two breaks, apart from that they had nothing. I don't think they are a better team than us, but we have to show that," said Camaj.
Prosinečki cannot count on Stevan Jovetić for the duel with Iceland (he is booked), and Andrija Vukčević also dropped out - the left back has already returned to the club due to knee problems.
Stefan Savić, Slobodan Rubežić, Marko Vešović, Vasilij Adžić, Milutin Osmajić were not even on the list for this action...
