A rare jubilee was celebrated in Tivat - Arsenal football club celebrated its 110th birthday.
The president of the club's assembly, Ivo Bošković, said "that Arsenal is not just a football club, but a symbol of unity, friendship and love for sport".
"Many of us remember the moments when we first set foot in the stadium, when we excitedly watched our players fight on the field and when we celebrated victory, but also when we learned how to deal with defeats. During these 110 years, our club has built a rich tradition - behind us are numerous titles, unforgettable matches, players and sports workers who left an indelible mark, not only in our club but in the hearts of fans and our municipality. Each of them contributed to our identity," Bošković pointed out.
Dragan Popadić, Radio Tivat journalist and a great friend of the club, recalled the deep connection between Tivat and Arsenal.
"There is almost no family in Tivat without one of its members playing in this club. My son trained here, I played and was the director of the club, and since 1985 I have followed him as a journalist. I have two big wishes when it comes to Arsenal - to become the national champion and to organize a tournament of clubs called Arsenal in Tivat. I am convinced that I will live long enough to fulfill both my wishes", said Popadić.
The first man of the club, Dejan Kandić, thanked everyone who built the club throughout its history.
"With the solemn academy and the initiated Monograph, we are laying the foundations of our irrefutability and existence. Arsenal is a special kind of cultural heritage and is engraved in the collective memory of the people of Tiv, although there are few or simply no families whose members did not wear the colors of our club. "Thousands of football players are proof that the cult of Arsenal never stopped living in the hearts of many people from Tiv and all those who wore this jersey," Kandic said.
Vice President of the Football Association of Montenegro Mojaš Radonjić underlined the importance of Arsenal for Montenegrin football.
"During the 11 decades that this club has existed, it has been home to a large number of players who, not only on the field in Tivat, but throughout Montenegro, the former Yugoslavia, did their best to properly represent the club, the city and the country they come from . All Arsenal players and citizens of Tivat can be proud of the results that their beloved club celebrates throughout history," Radonjić explained.
At the celebration, recognitions were presented to those deserving of entry into the First League, those who conquered Europe, the Buzić family for their long-term contribution to the club, coach Božidar Tujković for his contribution to the development of the youth club, as well as old members and officials of the club who left an indelible mark, and were awarded and acknowledgments to the current management of the club.
