The captain and goalkeeper of Bayern Munich, Manuel Neuer, has been suspended for two matches in the German Cup, after receiving the first red card of his career two days ago, the Disciplinary Commission of the German Football Association (DFB) announced today.
Neuer received his first red card in his 866th career match, after pushing Bayer Leverkusen player Jeremy Frimpong away in the 17th minute while trying to get to the ball. Bayern played most of the match with ten men on the field, and in the end, the Leverkusen team won the quarterfinals of the German Cup with a 1:0 victory.
This 38-year-old goalkeeper's contract with Bayern expires at the end of this season.
If Neuer were to extend his contract with Bayern, he would miss the first two rounds of the German Cup in the 2025/26 season, i.e. the first round of the Cup and the eventual Super Cup match there, if Bayern wins the Bundesliga title.
