But the first man of Real Madrid does not give up - Florentino Peres still has hopes that the project will come to life, from which only Real Madrid and Barcelona did not give up on the starting 12 big clubs.
At the General Assembly of Real Madrid, the president of the Madrid club, Florentino Peres, said that the work on the organization of the tournament continues.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Superliga organizers negotiated with more than a hundred clubs in Europe. About 60 of them have already expressed their desire to participate in the project.
According to the new format, the Superliga would have three divisions. In the biggest - Zvijezda, 16 clubs from League Five should participate, as well as strong teams from Portugal and the Netherlands. In the second - Golden 16 more, in the third - Blue, 32 clubs, 20 of which would be relegated every year.
The organizers of the soccer Superliga are discussing other changes. Many clubs have expressed interest in the champions of the best leagues, even if they are not historically the strongest, to get a place in the Star League.
There are also doubts about the duration of the league, according to the current model, in the group stage of the Zvijezda division, two groups of eight clubs are planned, which will play 14 games in two rounds.
The best four from each group would play in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of two games each, and the final one game. In total, the champion would have to play 19 games, while in the current format of the Champions League there are a maximum of 17.
The possibility of reducing the Superliga to 17 or 18 games is under consideration. The matches would always be played in the middle of the week. Thus, national leagues would still be played on weekends.
The start date of the competition is either September 2025, or a year later in the same month.
