Just as the player somehow quietly arrived in Rijeka and immediately "bought" everything with goals, so is Radomir Đalović's coaching journey in the city of rock and roll...
The young Montenegrin coach sat on the bench of the club from the biggest Croatian port at the beginning of this season when he succeeded Željko Sopić, who was fired.
Rijeka was struggling then, and four months later it is the leader of the Croatian championship, so the media in that country are already emphasizing that the Montenegrin is writing history in Croatia.
"At this point in the championship, after 16 rounds played, the leader of the championship is led from the bench by a Montenegrin expert, which has never happened in the history of the HNL," he writes. Vecernji list.
Rijeka is ahead of the giants Dinamo and Hajduk, at a time when the club from Zagreb is thrilling in the Champions League, and Split, under the leadership of Đenar Gatus, is playing like never before in recent years.
It is clear that there is still a lot to do until the end of the championship, but if he continues as he has been, Đalović could write some more pages in the history of Croatian football.
"There are some other curiosities: if Đalović became champion, he would be the first coach without a UefaPro diploma to succeed in the HNL, but also the first debutant coach with the title - the one for whom Rijeka is his first independent coaching job. At the same time, he was would be only the second Montenegrin coach to win the national championship in a European country after Miodrag Božović," explains Večernji list.
And, the diploma should arrive at the end of 2025.
"Đalović started his education at the HNS Academy for the UefaPro diploma in February of this year, and it is expected to be completed at the end of 2025".
The only club that managed to "steal" the title from Dinamo since 2006 was Rijeka in 2017 - is another party on the Adriatic coast being prepared in the spring?
"Given the chemistry Đalović has with his team, and the list of coaches from whom he learned and absorbed as a player - Kranjčar, Petković, Vulić, Dalić, Gračan, Skoria - Rijeka's candidacy for the championship title cannot be considered a surprise ", Večernji concluded.
