Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim said today that the football club is better off with player Marcus Rashford, who hinted that he could leave "Old Trafford".
Rashford said he is ready for a new challenge and new steps in his career, two days after he was left out of the squad for the city derby against reigning champions City.
The last time Rashford was a starter was on December 1 in a game against Everton (4:0) in the Premier League, in which he was a double scorer.
Amorim hinted that the club wants the 27-year-old striker to stay and said that he does not want to talk about the future but about the present.
"A club like this needs a big talent, and he is a big talent, so he just has to play at the highest level and that's my focus. I just want to help Markus," Amorim said, as reported by the BBC.
He was asked about Rashford's desire for a "new challenge".
"I think that's fine. We have a new challenge ahead of us, it's difficult. For me, it's the biggest challenge in football since we're in a difficult situation and I've already said that this is one of the best clubs in the world. I really hope that everyone my players are ready for this new challenge," said Amorim.
The Portuguese coach added that the club will try "different things" to help Rashford return to the best level he has shown in the past.
Since making his debut for Manchester United in 2016, Rashford has played 426 games and scored 138 goals.
He had his best season in 2022/2023 when he scored 30 goals in 56 games in all competitions and was then given a new five-year contract.
However, in the last 18 months, he has scored 15 goals in 67 games.
