Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho said he should have left Roma even before he was sacked by the club in January and would like to return to work in Serie A.
Mourinho was fired from Roma in mid-January, and a few months later he signed a two-year contract with Fenerbahce.
In an interview published today for Korijere delo Sport, Mourinho was asked if he regrets anything.
"Because of many things, if we talk about matches. Regarding personal decisions - the 'no' I said to Real Madrid president Florentino Peres. He told me: 'Mo, don't go now, you've done the hardest part, now the best part begins'. I knew it was true, but I wanted to come back to Chelsea after three years of great challenges. Then the events in Budapest, not the mess with the referee, but the fact that I didn't leave immediately To Roma, I didn't do that and it was a mistake," he said.
Mourinho led Roma to two consecutive finals of European competitions. In the first, the team won the Conference League in 2022, and a year later they lost to Sevilla in the Europa League final. Mourinho remained at the club after that, but was fired six months later.
After his dismissal, he bought tickets for the next game at the Olympic Stadium, but he did not come to the stadium.
"Not one, I bought four tickets. I was in the hotel with the assistants and they told me that I deserved to say goodbye to the fans and that they wanted to say goodbye to me. I thought about it, but I was afraid that I might I will be accused of harassing someone, and I don't do such things," Mourinho said.
He added that he likes coaching.
"I love football and my job. I don't want to wait for the ideal opportunity, the perfect place, and even less to take a vacation. I know that many people like it, or at least that's what they say. I came to a club that really wanted me and proved that from the first day ", said Mourinho about his arrival in Fenerbahce.
In 2010, Mourinho won the triple crown with Inter, and he said that he would like to return to Serie A, as well as lead the national team one day.
"I didn't watch Roma anymore, but I watched Inter. I want to be at the European Championship or the World Cup and unite the country around the team, as I have done many times with the clubs. I want to do it for football and what this sport represents . That would be incredible," Mourinho said.
