Barcelona made the most of yesterday's draw between Real Madrid and Atletico - the "blaugrana" defeated Sevilla away tonight (4:1) and moved closer to the Madrid clubs in the standings.
After the 23rd round, Real has two points more, and Atletico has one point more than Barcelona.
The match at the "Ramon Sanchez Picchuan" stadium started off great for the visiting team - in the seventh minute, Rafinha crossed the ball into the box, and Martinez passed it to the far post, where Robert Lewandowski was, who scored the goal.
The home team's response came a minute later, when Saul avoided the offside trap and assisted Vargas.
In stoppage time of the first half, Lukebakio missed a good chance to give Sevilla the lead, but then Barcelona opened the second half brilliantly. Fermin Lopes entered the game later, and in the 46th minute, he gave the "blaugrana" the lead.
Sevilla managed to score soon after, but the goal was disallowed because Vargas was offside, and the winner was decided after that. Rafinha continued the series and beat Niland from about 55 meters in the 20th minute, only to find Barça a man down seven minutes later when Lopes was sent off.
Even with a player less, Hansi Flick's team managed to score, and the scorer was Garcia, who set the final score.
