He lifted the Conference League Cup in the Olympiacos jersey on May 29th, and almost nine months later he is set to defend this trophy, but in the colors of Omonia.
The period without European matches is over for Stevan Jovetić - the Montenegrin captain begins his Conference League playoff battles tomorrow (Thursday, 21pm) in the Cypriot derby against Paphos.
Jovetic arrived at Omonia at the start of the season, but too late to be registered for UEFA competitions. However, his teammates played well in Europe, earning a place in the play-offs, and now the team's greatest master will be chasing the continuation of his dream.
"Jovetic's performance is so important that it can make Omonia significantly better in the match against Paphos, and above all much more dangerous, because the Montenegrin changes the entire team with his quality," writes "Cyprus Times".
The Montenegrin maestro won a European trophy for the first time last season with Olympiacos - the team from Piraeus is playing in the Europa League this season, so they will not be able to defend the trophy, but Jovetić will have the opportunity to fight for European dreams once again.
"Jovetic returns to the competition that suits him. After winning the 'Jo-yo' Conference League, he knows better than anyone what sacrifices are required for this competition at such an important stage, as well as what every footballer has to offer if he wants to progress and make a notable career. Omonia's first opponent is well known, as Stevan, although he has only been in Cyprus for a short time, has already shaken the Paphos net," the "Gazzetta.cy" portal announced.
Alongside Jovetić, another Montenegrin footballer will be fighting for Omonia's European dreams. It was the two of them who created the action for the captain's goal against Omonia 29. maj (3:2) over the weekend.
"Stevan Jovetić is the driving force of the team and his experience from such big games could play a decisive role in both Conference League playoff matches," wrote "Sport-fm".
Jovetić has found the net five times in the championship this season.
The remaining playoff matches will be played tomorrow evening, and in addition to the Cypriot derby, Celje - APOEL, Molde - Shamrock, TSC - Jagiellonia, Vikingur - Panathinaikos (18.45:XNUMX p.m.), Borac Banja Luka - Olimpija, Copenhagen - Heidenheim and Gent - Betis will also play.
