The great Sir Alex Ferguson used to say that Manchester United should always strive for the best in everything they do - on and off the pitch, and that includes the stadium they play in.
And when the greatest coach in the history of the English giants says something, it must be respected, so United will get a spectacular new home in the future.
As announced by the club from the "Theater of Dreams", the new stadium will be built next to the current "Old Trafford", so United will not have to play on neutral grounds during construction.
"Old Trafford has served us well for the last 115 years, but it now lags behind the world's best sports arenas. We will be able to protect Old Trafford while we build a new state-of-the-art stadium," said Jim Ratcliffe, one of United's owners.
The new stadium will be the largest in the world and will be able to accommodate 100.000 spectators, and the club announced that it will bring an additional 7,3 billion pounds a year to the UK economy. In addition, it includes the potential creation of 92.000 new jobs, more than 17.000 new homes and attracting an additional 1,8 million visitors a year.
The club did not say how much the construction of the new stadium would cost, nor did it reveal when it would be completed, while architect Norman Foster pointed out that it could be operational in 10 years.
"Our long-term goal is for the best football team in the world to play in the best stadium on the planet," said Omar Berada, United's chief executive.
The new stadium looks spectacular, but many will be nostalgic when the legendary "Old Trafford" officially closes.
