Nikić before the start of qualifying: We expect six points at the start

The Montenegrin national football team is set to begin a new cycle on Saturday - the "brave falcons" are heading into World Cup qualifiers, and this month they will face matches against Gibraltar and the Faroe Islands, both in Nikšić.

The first match is against Gibraltar (Saturday, 18), against whom our team has already played in the qualifiers for the previous World Cup and won both times - 4:1 and 3:0. The match with the Faroe Islands is on Tuesday (20.45:XNUMX), and the group also includes the Czech Republic, and the losers from the quarter-finals of the League of Nations, in which Croatia and France meet.

"We expect six points from the first two matches. We are aware that on the field we have to justify the role of favorites, which we are not running away from. We have to start strongly from the first minute on the rival's bunker, because they are certainly coming with the goal of recording a positive result. It is up to us not to let them do that," said the goalkeeper of the "brave falcons", Igor Nikić.

Goalkeeper Dečić points out to AdmiralBeta that these kinds of matches are the most demanding.

"It's clear that both teams will come to defend. We will work these days on tactics to break through their defense. We will watch and analyze and in the match itself try to score as soon as possible and win. These kinds of matches are quite demanding. Everyone plays football today and every team can threaten you from the counterattack. It's up to me to stay alert. Gibraltar and the Faroe Islands will stand low, while I will have to stand high, with my back line and follow. It's quite difficult, but we are preparing for it and that's what we expect. They won't surprise us."

Nikić is back in the team, having made his debut in the previous edition of the Nations League and making four appearances.

"I am glad that the coach and the coaching staff are satisfied with how I did my job in the Nations League. However, now we are starting a new cycle, nothing that happened before guarantees me the position of the first goalkeeper of the national team again. A new match is a new proof. I am guided by that motto," said Nikić.

Montenegro will be without the injured Stefan Savić in this cycle as well.

"There's no need to talk about what kind of player Stefan Savić is, I've watched him on television for 15 years and it would mean a lot to me to play with him. I hope he recovers quickly and will be with us," added Nikić.

After these matches, Montenegro will face the Czech Republic away in June.

"We can play with anyone, we've shown that many times. However, I wouldn't go that far. We have two important games until June and the away game against the Czech Republic that we have to win, so we'll think about it then," said Nikić.

Nikić also expects support from the stands at these matches.

"I hope the audience will come in large numbers. I remember that against Iceland and Turkey, even though the weather conditions were unfavorable, the fans came to support us, which meant a lot to us. I hope the same will be the case now."
