Two matches, six points and a desire for victories - that's what they will remember, the game lacked ideas, but the one who inspired the "falcons" with every touch, even against the "steely" Faroe Islands, was captain Stevan Jovetić.
The Montenegrin footballers did not give up, and they achieved victory in the 2nd round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the 96th minute when Farane was brought down by Edvin Kuč.
"It was a tough game, it wasn't easy because of the pitch... What I'm happy about is that we persevered in the game, even in the second half when you don't get the result you want. We were even better in that part," Jovetić told Radio Television of Montenegro.
The goal came from the last attack, but Montenegro deserved it, if for no other reason than their great desire.
"I think he rewarded us from above, I'm happy and we should enjoy the six points," added Jovetić.
The Farani have shown that they are far from a total outsider - they have tormented Montenegro, and three days earlier, the Czech Republic.
"In football, there are no more differences like there used to be, everyone is progressing - you saw how tactically disciplined the French were. It was difficult to break through them, of course in situations like this it's always easier when you open the match at the start," the captain explained and repeated.
"I say - we persevered, we were real, in the end the reward came when Kuč scored a goal, in the 96th minute... I don't think it could have been better."
The qualifications continue in June - Montenegro's first big test awaits them in Plzeň against the Czech Republic.
"We will be more complete in June and I think we can look forward to the Czech Republic as well," concluded Jovetić.
