The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is looking for a new national team coach after the dismissal of Dorival Junior and is trying to bring in Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti or Manchester City's Pep Guardiola, Brazilian media reported today.
The Brazilian Football Confederation fired coach Dorival late last night after 14 months due to poor results.
Dorival was fired three days after a 4-1 defeat to Argentina, Brazil's heaviest defeat in World Cup qualifying.
Brazilian football leaders have been trying to recruit Ancelotti, who has extended his contract with Real, for a long time, and UOL reported that they are also interested in Guardiola, but that it is practically "impossible".
Ancelotti on Friday denied reports that he had spoken to CBF officials and said he has a contract with Real Madrid until the end of the 2026 season.
Also among the candidates are Jorge Jesus of Al Hilal, Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira and Flamengo coach Filipe Luis.
Guardiola once stated that he wanted to be the coach of a national team before he finished his career.
His contract with City expires in the summer of 2027 and he has repeatedly said that he will not leave the club amid poor results.
The Brazilian national team is fifth in the South American qualifying table, from where the top six go directly to the World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico in 2026.
Brazil's World Cup qualifiers will continue on June 4th with a match against Ecuador.
