Aston Villa was Matija Šarkić's first club in England, after he arrived on the Island from Anderlecht, and for the umpteenth time since the Montenegrin goalkeeper passed away this summer, they have shown immense respect for Matija.
The "Lions" kicked off their Premier League derby against Nottingham Forest at 18.30:XNUMX p.m., and the goalkeepers - led by arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, Emiliano Martinez, wore T-shirts that read:
"Forever Matija," it was written on the T-shirts worn by the Villa goalkeepers as they warmed up before the match against the "foresters".
The detail from "Vila Park" is, of course, related to the memorial tournament that was played yesterday and today in Brussels in honor of Matija Šarkić.
It is attended by teams under 13 from the clubs for which Matija played, as well as guest teams from Belgium.
Along with Aston Villa, these are Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Millwall, Anderlecht - whose jersey he wore at the start of his career - and guests Antwerp, Standard Liege and Leuven.
Matija Šarkić passed away suddenly on June 15, 2024, at the age of 27 - just a few days after he had a memorable match for Montenegro against Belgium in "his" Brussels.
