Kylian Mbappe's legal team announced today that a court has ruled to freeze 55 million euros in Paris Saint-Germain's account as a precaution, which the French footballer claims his former club owes him in unpaid wages.
The French footballer's legal team has filed multiple lawsuits to try to resolve the legal dispute between Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain, with a hearing for the unpaid wages case scheduled for May 26.
"This story has been going on for a little over a year now. One year was the deadline we set ourselves to try to resolve this dispute as peacefully as possible. As the months passed, Kylian Mbappe still has not been paid the missing 55 million euros. The decision has been made to go on the offensive this time," said the French footballer's lawyer, Delphine Vereiden.
Vereiden said they had also asked the French sports minister to intervene and legally challenge the decision of the French Football Federation's appeal committee, which ruled that Mbappe's appeal against Paris Saint-Germain was inadmissible.
In addition, she stated that Mbappe asked the Federation to inform the European Football Association (Uefa) that Paris Saint-Germain had not paid him what he owed, thus violating the club's obligations.
Vereiden suggested that if Paris Saint-Germain were found guilty, they could lose their license that would allow the team to play in the Champions League.
Last October, the French league's appeals committee upheld a decision ordering Paris Saint-Germain to pay Mbappe the unpaid wages he wanted. Mbappe claims the club owes him three months' wages and the last third of his loyalty bonus.
The French striker joined Real Madrid as a free agent last summer, and made the decision not to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain before the start of the 2023/24 season, after which he was removed from the team.
Paris Saint-Germain claimed that a verbal agreement was then made with the French striker to forgo the bonus in order to return to the team.
"They have not shown any evidence of any agreement," Vereiden said.
Mbappe's legal team announced that they will take action against Paris Saint-Germain for harassment over the way Mbappe was treated.
They will also launch another legal action before an industrial tribunal, while Mbappe and his mother have filed claims for abuse they experienced online.
Paris Saint-Germain said in a statement that it still wanted to reach an "amicable" resolution to the dispute, despite "repeated signs of bad faith and the player's complete refusal of any mediation."
The club added that Mbappe "must respect the clear and repeated public and private commitments he has made to his employer."
Mbappe played for Paris Saint-Germain for seven years and during that time became the club's record scorer for the number of goals scored (256).
