The new round of the Meridianbet 1st Montenegrin League starts on Friday, with the biggest derby - Sutjeska near Bistrica welcomes Budućnost (20 p.m.), in the fourth and final championship duel between the Nikšić and Podgorica teams this season.
Buducnost is convincingly first in the standings, with 14 points more than second-placed Petrovac, 26 more than third-placed Sutjeska, and is counting down the days until mathematical promotion.
The result of the match, from a competitive perspective, is much more important for the host. Milija Savović's team wants to maintain third place until the end of the season, which would, in the event that Petrovac wins the Cup (and remains second in the standings, which is quite certain), bring them a place on the European stage.
Sutjeska is in 3rd place, three points ahead of Dečić and Mornar.
Sutjeska is also playing against an extremely negative tradition, as it has not beaten Buducnost in the championship or the Cup for 12 games (seven losses, five draws). Its last triumph over its biggest rival was four years ago - on September 11, 2021, when it won 1:0.
- A derby is always a special match, regardless of the position in the table, it represents a special motive for all the players - said Savović.
- We want to continue in a good rhythm like the games from the previous rounds, and to present ourselves in the best possible light to our fans. The opponent is both the biggest rival and the best team in the league, as proven by their form, so maximum effort will be needed to win - said Savović.
Buducnost has no defeats in the second half of the championship, and has not lost to Sutjeska this season - it has achieved two wins and one draw.
- There are always expectations that we will go for a win. Sutjeska has improved in terms of results and playing. In the last seven games they have recorded five wins, with one loss and one draw. They are waiting for the derby in a good atmosphere and want to break the tradition of not beating Buducnost for a long time. Bearing in mind that we are waiting for a good pitch and a nice evening in Niksic, we expect to continue a series of exciting games - said Buducnost coach Ivan Brnović.
Other matches of the 29th round on Saturday are Arsenal-Dečić (14 p.m.), Mornar-Jezero (15 p.m.), Bokelj-Jedinstvo (15 p.m.) and Otrant-Petrovac (18 p.m.).
