The young falcons have got rivals at the historic European Championship for Montenegrin football - they will be the current champion Spain, the host Romania and Denmark, and to make things even better, they will play at the opening of the championship.
The youth national team, which was the first from our country to secure a place in a major competition, will play in Group A, it was announced after today's draw.
The second group will consist of Germany, England, the Netherlands and Norway - the three giants and the Scandinavian selection that played in the semi-finals two years ago, so it is clear that Nenad Vukčević's team did well in the draw.
"I think Spain is the favorite in our group, the rest are somewhere around there in terms of quality," said Vukčević.
The match schedule is also known, so our national team will play in the opening match of the Euro - against Romania on June 13th, at the Dinamo Bucharest stadium "Arcul de Triumf".
The "Falcons" will play their second match against Denmark at the "Rapid Đuleşti Arena" three days later, while a clash with Spain is scheduled for the end of the group stage, on June 19th - in Ploeşti.
Spain has been champion at this age group nine times (2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2024), while Romania and Denmark have never made it past the group stage - the host has made two appearances in the final tournament so far, and the Scandinavians only once.
"I think the groups are equal, there is no easier or harder, especially for us. In the previous period, I watched the teams that ended up with us in the group. The most important thing is for our players to play as much as possible in their clubs, to be as physically and mentally ready as possible for this tournament. I hope that if we play like we did in Georgia, we will achieve a good result," added Vukčević.
The European Championship starts on June 13th, and the group stage will be played until the 20th. After that, the two best teams will meet in the semi-finals on June 23rd, and the winners of those duels in the final scheduled for three days later.
The European Championship will be played in Bucharest (Rapid Giulești Arena and Dinamo Stadium), Ploiești (Ilie Oana Stadium) and Voluntari (Angel Jordanescu Stadium).
Rapid Đuleşti Arena will host the final match.
