Jurgen Klopp, German coach and legend of Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, would agree to begin negotiations with Real Madrid, who want him as their head coach for the upcoming period.
The news was announced by "UOL Sport", and reported by the Catalan "Sport".
"Klopp is getting closer to Real Madrid, the German expert could be Florentino Perez's secret trump card for a new project," adds the reputable Catalan newspaper.
The man who brought Borussia and Liverpool back to the big stories has been out of action for a year after leaving Anfield due to fatigue and lack of energy. He has recently worked as the sports director of the Red Bull Group, but he would be ready to negotiate with the "royal club".
According to Spanish media, his close associates say that he would only return to coaching if the project was convincing enough, and that he would currently only consider a call from Real Madrid or the Brazilian national team.
At the same time, Perez is seriously considering hiring the famous German coach as a response to Hansi Flick's arrival at Barcelona.
When he left Liverpool, he emphasized that he no longer felt mentally ready for the daily pressure and that he would certainly not work anywhere as a coach for a year, and that there was a high chance that he had said goodbye to coaching forever.
However, after his break, he seems to miss everything that comes with being a coach, because that is his true passion - of course, it is completely clear that he would only do it in projects where he would have complete control and a realistic chance of winning everything.
At Real Madrid, as Sport previously wrote, there is a part of the management that sees Klopp as the ideal coach to "correct the course", since Ancelotti - regardless of another year of contract - has already been written off, and the names of Xabi Alonso and Zinedine Zidane are also on the table.
Alonso was the first choice, but with Madrid in complete crisis, Florentino doubts whether the time is right to hand him the keys to the team, and his unconvincing season at Leverkusen doesn't help either. Zidane is always a wild card for Florentino, although a third term at the Bernabeu seems complicated.
Incidentally, Klopp was Real's desire even before he took over Liverpool.
"Florentino Perez spoke with him several times, but their plans and timing never matched. Real Madrid now believe that Klopp could bring a strong impulse to the team - due to his discipline, character and tactical ideas. They also believe that he would be the ideal figure to disrupt Flick's project at Barcelona," Sport concludes.
The first signing for Klopp, if he accepts the invitation, should be the guy he launched at Liverpool - Trent Alexander-Arnold.
