There could not have been more excitement than was seen in the second legs of the Manchester United - Lyon and Lazio - Bode Glimt duels in the Europa League quarter-finals.
At Old Trafford, United made a miraculous turnaround and eliminated the "Lions" after 120 minutes of fighting, while the Norwegian team upset the Romans and became the first team from that Scandinavian country to reach the semi-finals of a European competition.
After a 2-2 draw in Lyon, the Red Devils had a 2-0 lead by halftime (goals from Ugarte and Dalot), then allowed their rivals to secure penalties through Tolisso and Tagliafico, in which the French team, with one player less, reached a huge 4-2 lead.
Scherchi and Lacazette's penalty kicks seemed to have launched Lyon into the semi-finals, but then what had been a dream for over 75 fans happened at the "Theater of Dreams" - in seven minutes, Ruben Amorim's team scored three goals (Fernandes from the penalty spot, I will and at the end Maguire) and put an end to a spectacular night on the Island.
United will now face Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals, having justified their role as favourites against Rangers at home - it was 2-0, with Sunset and Nico Williams scoring from the penalty spot. There were no goals in the first leg in Glasgow...
Bode miraculously reached the semi-finals, eliminating Lazio on penalties.
The Norwegians arrived in the Eternal City with a 2:0 lead from the first leg, but were in a subordinate position for a long time at the "Olympic".
Kasteljanos scored early to make it 1:0, Lazio then missed chances before Noslin brought extra time in the 93rd minute.
Then the "sky blues" reached 3:0 through Dija, but Bode didn't think about surrendering, so in the 109th minute, through Helmersen, he got the result that guaranteed him penalties.
Lazio's elimination put an end to it - the Italian Serie A cannot have more than four representatives in the Champions League next season.
Bode's rival in the semi-finals is Tottenham, who won Germany.
After a 1-1 draw in London, Spurs defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0, with Solanke's penalty goal at the end of the first half decisive.
