Esteghlal didn't shine earlier this season, and Miodrag Božović didn't manage to "get it going" either, so the departure came after just under two months.
The Montenegrin expert is no longer the coach of the football giant from Tehran, after recording five draws and four losses in nine games on the bench of this club.
"We would like to thank Mr. Miodrag Božović for his effort and commitment, because in a difficult and critical moment he accepted to take over the leadership of the Esteghlal football team. We also express our deep gratitude to the esteemed members of the coaching staff who accompanied him and who served the team with dedication and commitment during this period," the Iranian club announced.
During a brief period in Tehran, Božović led Esteghlal in the Champions League against Al-Nasr, whose colors are defended by Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane and many other stars - the first match was 0:0, while the wealthy Saudi team won 3:0 in the second leg.
Božović will certainly remember the spectacle against the leader of Traktor - a match watched by an incredible 120.000 people in Tabriz.
Before Esteghlal in Iran, he managed the namesake team from Khuzestan. He left the Tehran club when it was 11th in the Iranian championship standings.
Two other of our coaches worked with him in Iran - Saša Petrović, Vesko Stešević and Dejan Mrvaljević.
