Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta said he fully believes his team can beat Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final, adding that he was very disappointed with the defeat in the first leg of the tie.
"This is only half-time, I said the same thing after we beat Real Madrid at home in the first leg of the quarter-finals. We are going to Paris to win and I fully believe we can achieve it. You see the level of play of these two teams. We will have our chances and we will have to be very lethal when we have them," Arteta said, as reported by the club's website.
Arsenal lost 1-0 to Paris Saint-Germain at home in London on Tuesday, in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
"We are very disappointed with the result because I think we deserved a lot more than what we got. After a difficult start, especially when they scored so early after a good combination, they had the quality to open you up and finish in the way they did. But after that I think the team got better and better," said Arteta.
The Arsenal coach stated that his team did a lot of good things during that game, but that the result did not show it.
"I know we are playing against a top team and we did a lot of good things, but unfortunately the result doesn't show those good things," Arteta said.
Arteta stated that the margin for error was very small and that he regretted the missed chances of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossar.
"The margin for error is very small. We had two huge chances, probably the two best chances of the game, Gabi and Leo came out one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Gianluigi Donnarumma managed to save both shots and then Mikel Merino's goal was disallowed. That's the margin and unfortunately we didn't manage to score," he said.
The return match is scheduled for May 7th in Paris, and the winner of this two-legged tie will play against the winner of the Barcelona-Inter duel in the Champions League final.
"If you want to win the Champions League or be in the final, you have to do something extraordinary during some stage of the competition. That's what we need to plan now and do when we get to Paris in a few days," said Arteta.
