The first year in Cyprus brought a lot of games, nice moves and goals, but no trophy for Montenegrin captain Stevan Jovetić.
The last chance for his Omonia to reach the cup this season went in the semi-finals of the Cup, where AEK Larnaca was better than the club from Nicosia.
The "Green and White" have something to regret, because after a 0-0 draw in front of their fans, in the second leg away from home, they had a player more from the ninth minute and had the whole time to celebrate and advance to the final.
However, they were defeated 2:1, and Omonia's only goal came after a masterstroke by Jovetić - the Montenegrin maestro, with AEK leading 1:0, phenomenally opened up the rival's defense, after which Loizos Loizu scored.
"A magical assist, an incredible pass," wrote the Cypriot "Sport Time".
Omonia, for which another Montenegrin footballer, Novica Eraković, played until the 66th minute, tried until the end, but failed to defeat AEK, so the team from Larnaca will play against the new champion Paphos in the final.
Jovetić arrived at Omonia at the end of September, signed a two-year contract, and this season he has played 25 games and scored five goals.
The club from Nicosia is in fourth place with two rounds left in the season, one point shy of securing a place in Europe, and in addition to domestic competitions, it has also competed in the Conference League, where it reached the round of 32.
The captain's standard form is certainly pleasing the "Falcons" coach Robert Prosinecki ahead of the super important match that our national team will play in Plzen in June against the Czech Republic, in the World Cup qualifiers.
