Another interesting weekend has passed in the English Premier League - the fierce battle for a place in the Champions League continues, as five teams are in the game for three places in the elite European competition.
Manchester City took a step back, and against a disappointing Southampton, who only won their 12th point against the "citizens" in a match that ended 0:0, thus avoiding the infamous record held by Derby with only 11 points in the Premier League.
Also, a big blunder was witnessed by the two-time champions of the Old Continent - Nottingham Forest at their City Ground against another team that was relegated to the Championship a long time ago.
"Forest" drew (2:2) against Leicester and thus reduced their chances of reaching the Champions League. Forest last appeared in the Cup/Champions League back in 1981.
On the other hand, Newcastle United recorded a significant victory (2:0) over their direct Champions League rivals Chelsea, taking a huge step towards a place in the Top 5.
"The Magpies" achieved victory in an exciting match with a player who was more difficult to beat than the score suggests, thus overtaking Nottingham Forest in the table and taking third place.
Unai Emery's team celebrated away against Bournemouth (1:0) and thus took advantage of their competitors' mistakes - in a very tense match, the "Lions" were not disturbed by even one player less, they achieved a big victory and continued the fight for a second consecutive place in the Champions League.
Aston Villa overtook Forest with two rounds remaining and tied with Chelsea in the table, with whom they share fifth place.
Schedule for the last two rounds:
Newcastle visit Arsenal and welcome Everton;
Manchester City - plays at home against Bournemouth and away against Fulham;
Chelsea - plays against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge and in the final round they face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground;
Aston Villa - plays at home against Tottenham and away against Manchester United;
Nottingham Forest - first plays away against West Ham, and closes the season with a duel with Chelsea.
