Carlo Angelotti has been promoted to Brazil coach - there is no longer any doubt as to how long he will lead Real Madrid, nor what his future holds, because the legendary Italian has taken a step that has been expected for the last 12 months.
Don Carlo was very close to taking over the "cariocas" this summer, when he Florentino Perez said "no" and invoked a clause in the contract, and now both the controversial Real Madrid president and the trophy-winning coach have concluded that parting ways is the best solution. The time has come to part ways, the "Blancos" season is not good and they need fresh blood - on the bench, but also in the playing staff...
There is no doubt that Real will take over. Xabi Alonso, while Ancelotti is due to appear in Rio de Janeiro in the last days of May and officially begin one of the most challenging adventures of his career. He has had many, managing giants such as Juventus, Milan and Real, and Brazil is definitely the biggest possible test in international football.
- Ancelotti was and remains the first pick of the head of the Brazilian Football Federation because he has a tradition of success, winning in five different countries - a football expert told the BBC Tim Vickery.
Brazilians have historically trusted local coaches, and Ancelotti is only the fourth foreigner to take the reins of the five-time world champion. After Ramona Plate from Uruguay 1925, Portuguese Flavija Košta Žoreka (over 80 years ago) and an Argentine Plush Nunjesa who led the great in only one match in 1965.
- Ancelotti's arrival at this moment is like a big wall being knocked down. Especially since it seems, at least it is stated, that Ancelotti does not want to spend much time in Brazil, but to mainly manage from Europe. If that is the case - it is in a way controversial - added Vickery.
But if anyone is ready to adapt to new environments and needs, it's Ancelotti, a coach who throughout his career was known for his ability to tame the biggest stars and fit them into a team that eventually reaches its goal - or rather, a cup.
The Italian has won the Champions League five times (two with Milan, three on the Real Madrid bench), was the champion of Italy, England, France, Germany and Spain, and has an enviable playing career in the jersey of Roma, the "rosonera" and the "azure". Brazil has gained a gentleman and class in a coach at a time when it is far from the world's top...
The "Kariokas" haven't won the World Cup since 2002, and after that they were eliminated in the quarterfinals four times, with a semifinal appearance in 2014 when they were the hosts. And even then, it would have been better if they hadn't played because Germany humiliated them at the "Marakana" when they won 7-1.
- Since 2002, every World Cup has ended in elimination from the European team. The Brazilians want to put a stop to that chaos, which is why they chose one of the greatest coaches on the Old Continent - Vickery has no doubt.
Ancelotti will take over Brazil in 15 days and must react as soon as possible because the South American World Cup qualifiers continue - on June 6th there is a match against Ecuador, five days later against Paraguay.
Brazil is in fourth place with four rounds of qualifying remaining and their World Cup qualification should not be in jeopardy. But the public wants to see an immediate change after the 4-1 debacle against Argentina in March.
That defeat cost Dorival Junior his job when the Federation decided to definitely accelerate the "Ancelotti project". They got what they wanted, now it's time for Karlo to show with the greatest why he is one of the greatest...
