FIFA President Gianni Infantino opened the World Football Association Congress several hours late because he was in the Persian Gulf with the President of the United States.
After the break, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin and the English FA President Debbie Hewitt did not return to the session, as a gesture of disapproval of Infantino's actions.
According to the BBC, UEFA has accused Gianni Infantino of putting "personal political interest" above his function and the work he does in football.
The FIFA Congress was delayed by two hours and 17 minutes.
Infantino said that his visit to the Persian Gulf countries was extremely important in order to promote football among world leaders in politics and economics.
"The FIFA Congress is one of the most important events in world football, where all 211 member countries come together and discuss issues necessary for this sport worldwide. By postponing the start of the Congress, Infantino has put the values of football in second place. We all subordinate our functions to the interests of football, both on the street and at the most important events, and have left the Congress at the time when it should have ended," UEFA announced. In addition to Ceferin and Hewitt, other members of the Council from UEFA also left the FIFA Congress.
