Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca expressed his dissatisfaction today with the fact that his team has two days less to prepare for the Conference League final than rivals Betis.
While Betis play their final La Liga match on Friday against Valencia, Chelsea will end their Premier League season on Sunday, with a match against Nottingham Forest – just three days before the final which is played on Wednesday in Wroclaw, Poland.
This is a decisive match for Chelsea as well, considering that both teams are in the fight for a place in the Champions League.
"I'm not satisfied, one hundred percent," Mareska said at a press conference.
"You can't allow one team to have 48 more hours to prepare when a European final is being played," he added.
The European Football Association (Uefa), which organizes the Conference League, has no influence on the match dates in domestic championships.
Due to Premier League rules that all final round matches are played at the same time, Chelsea cannot move their meeting with Forest to Friday, as is the case with Betis.
Mareska did have one suggestion: "Or let Betis play on Sunday, like us," he said with a smile.
As a reminder, Tottenham and Manchester United, who will play the Europa League final on Wednesday, played their last league games on Friday evening.
