Record holder Žarko Korać: I never have enough goals

Material fatigue, what was that?

For Žarko Korac, it's an unfamiliar term, and rightly so - even though he will soon turn 38, the sturdy center forward of Jedinstvo France is the top scorer of the first league caravan for the second season in a row.

In the 2024/2025 season, Korać defended his title as the top scorer in the 1st CFL - he scored 16 goals, and in the last round, in a draw with Sutjeska (3:3), he was the scorer of the second goal.

- It's harder to defend the award, I guess that's why I scored two more last season. It's definitely not about age, I don't feel like I'll be 38 in June. The only thing that reminds me of that fact is prejudices during negotiations, clauses and some conditions that I won't and don't want to agree to. That's why I turned down several interesting offers from abroad during the winter transfer window. Žarko Korać would never "let down" the team and there are no conditions that could change my attitude to give my maximum on the field in every game - Korać is clear.

He was also the top scorer of the first season in the Montenegrin top league, when he celebrated the title of the first champion of Montenegro in the Zeta jersey.

- At that time I shared the title of the best with Damir Čakar, I was the top scorer four times in total, but only in the last two I was alone at the top. I am proud of that, but also of the fact that I have never finished a season in Montenegrin football of any level with less than 15 goals. So, after five seasons in Israel, four in Haifa and one in Jerusalem, I returned to Bijelo Polje to help Jedinstvo, and when no one else wanted to. And I didn't start out in Jedinstvo, although Nikoljac is literally in the backyard of the place where I grew up. I started in Bijelo Polje (now Omladinac) at the age of 10, 11, and I was already a member of Zeta at the age of 14. Attack has always been the only thing that interested me and I just watch the movements of the attackers. Didier Drogba is, in my opinion, unrivaled, from the current Harry Kanes, because of his heading, but also his skill when his back is turned to the goal - Korać tells "Vijesti".

Back in October 2023, Korać scored 112 goals in the domestic top league, breaking Admir Adrović's record of 110. In the meantime, he has a full 137 on his account.

- I will continue to play, where, I don't know. I need to sit down and make an agreement. I have the same passion for football as when I started, I feel great and the sports life has helped me avoid injuries. I have not felt satiated for a single moment and when that happens I will know it is over. This way, I enjoy football, I also have two championship titles, with Sherif from Moldova, who inexplicably now lost the title and opened an easier path for Buducnost in Europe, and with Zeta in the first season - explained Korac.

And the future of Unity?

- It is just coming, work has begun on a modern center with all the conditions for the development of fiddlers, because let me remind you, we don't even have an auxiliary field. The youth facility is being worked on more than correctly in these conditions, and there is no lack of enthusiasm and desire of children to play football in Bijelo Polje. Next summer, all the prerequisites for a football boom in Bijelo Polje will be created at Lješnica. Of course, thanks to the Football Association of Montenegro.

Apart from achieving the goal in difficult conditions, what determined that Jedinstvo avoided the barrage and achieved direct survival?

- Trust! Coach Sead Babača makes a plan, club president Nermin Bećirović tries to fulfill it to the best of his ability, and we players work, train and complete tasks on the field. There have been no conflicts in the club in these four years, with the departure of Vuk Bogavac, the team was entrusted to his assistant Babača and everyone knows that no one will suddenly turn their backs on them. We have seen that such a practice reflects badly on other clubs - concluded Korać.

I won't give up the fight for my favorite jersey.

The Moldovan championship title and the first title in Montenegro are the trophies of Žarko Korać. Although constantly in the top scorers, Korać did not experience the magic of playing for the strongest Montenegrin team.

- I'm not giving up, I played for the youth team and I don't think I've said the last word yet - said Korać and added:

- Playing in the A selection and winning the Montenegrin Cup are my only two unfulfilled wishes. As it is, I am proud that I helped Jedinstvo have the best period in the club's history, because our club entered and was immediately relegated three times, and now we have achieved our goal - we have won direct survival, and we will play for the fourth consecutive season in the company of the best - says Korac proudly.
