Exactly 30 days ago, he was introduced as the new sports director of Buducnost, and just a few days later, the club's president. Bosko Kovačević said that the executive director Novak Novakovic (removed shortly thereafter) had no authority to appoint Dejan DamjanovićThe chaos that reigns in the biggest Montenegrin club is difficult to describe.
So, exactly 30 days have passed, and the popular Boske, the legend of Montenegrin national football, no longer wants to remain silent - he says he is fed up with the spin, media appearances, backroom and bar stories, and the smearing of his name.
He decided to speak out, with a statement:
“It's a shame, and it's not fair, that this is being done to Buducnost, on its centennial,” he begins.
"I am the sports director, I signed a two-year contract. I knew when I arrived that the situation at the club was a bit undefined, but I arrived full of enthusiasm, at the invitation of Novak Novaković. And from the day I arrived I heard that I was illegally appointed, and Novaković carried the club on his back for the whole year and had a top season, made top transfers."
Damjanović emphasizes that he was guided exclusively by sporting motives.
"I came to help Buducnost - a great club - to try to make a breakthrough in Europe. Even if things had gone badly in terms of results, I wouldn't have made any problems, regardless of the contract, because I've achieved everything, both football-wise and financially, and I don't want people to think that I'm here for the money or that I'm taking someone's position," Damjanović points out.
However...
"From the first day, I felt incredible intolerance towards me. Suddenly it started in the style of - you're not for this, you're not for that. I was silent for 30 days and for the first time since then I'm speaking out publicly, because I want to protect my name, so that various people don't drag me through the mud, with various spins, stories that don't even belong in a bar. I would like people to do every job they are paid for and not go beyond the scope of their authority."
Damjanović says he tried to work normally - in abnormal conditions.
"I spoke to the coach and wanted to have a constructive conversation, to start with a normal relationship from the beginning. Again, he does a lot of things on his own, without consulting anyone at the club, and the most recent thing is this, which has shaken us all, in addition to all the daily stories that follow us - I see that he thanked our captain and club legend who is under contract for another year and that he is offering him my position as sports director. I still can't, and I don't want to, believe that this is true, because in 25 years in football I have never seen or heard that such things can happen. And I hope that we will resolve everything soon, because such things only harm the club.
Boske concludes:
"FK Buducnost deserves much more respect for this anniversary. It deserves to be talked about more about our players who had a phenomenal season, about young players who showed great talent."
