The Montenegrin women's senior football team will play the final match of Group C19 of the UEFA Nations League in Lithuania on Tuesday at 4 p.m. (our time), deciding whether to advance to the higher tier.
A point against Lithuania, which caused a sensation on Friday and defeated Azerbaijan 5:0 away, is enough for Montenegro to secure a place in League B.
- Of course, we did not expect such a result in Baku, especially because Azerbaijan won the first match away 2:0. The Lithuanians showed that they are good, this was also evident in Podgorica, even though we won 3:1. However, we have to think about our game, to show how much we are worth and what makes us special and to go where we belong. Everything stops in the last 90 minutes, said defender Helena Božić.
Lithuania ruined all calculations, and with their victory, they, in a way, made things easier for our team. Now, a draw is enough for Mirko Marić's team to win first place in the group and move up to the higher ranks.
- We did not expect this result, but nothing has changed in our plans. Since the beginning of preparations, we have been focused on defeating Lithuania and we are not backing down from that. Maybe it is easier now, because we are satisfied with two results, but our only wish is to win, said Nađa Stanović, midfielder for our national team and Slavia Prague.
Montenegro has won second place in the group in the previous two competition cycles, played play-off matches against Northern Ireland and Finland, and now has the chance to take a step forward.
- We played important matches, there were games before that were decisive, but now everything is in our hands and that's good. I believe we will be at the level, we hope to qualify for League B, said Stanović.
