Montenegrin women's football players will play the decisive match in Group C19 of the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Mirko Marić's team is visiting Lithuania with the expectation that a point will bring them first place and their first promotion to the higher ranks of European football.
Before the final round, Montenegro and Azerbaijan have the same number of points at the top (five), with the Azerbaijani team ending the competition with an unexpected defeat to Lithuania on home soil - 5:0.
"From day one, I emphasized that we are playing in a balanced group, in which anyone can beat anyone. So, we knew that Lithuania is a good team and that was confirmed, it is not a surprise that they won, but it is true that we did not expect this result. It is also true that a draw is suitable for us now, but no team has ever played for a point, and neither will we. Our focus from day one of preparation has been to go for the win and that has not changed," said Marić.
Lithuania now has three points and with a win can move to the B Nations League.
"They will be highly motivated, on the wings of a big victory they will have great confidence. It won't be easy for us, that's for sure," the coach emphasized.
Our team's advantage, apart from having two results to its credit, may also be that it plays one match in the last window, unlike its rivals.
"That could be good for us, but it doesn't have to mean anything. It's good that we watched the Azerbaijan - Lithuania match, that we can analyze it and see the good sides of the opponents, of which there were many," said Marić.
Montenegro enters the deciding match weakened - captains Slađana Bulatović and Anđela Tošković are missing due to serious injuries, Maša Tomašević is also injured, while Armisa Kuč's performance is questionable.
"We will see with the medical team whether Misa can, how much she can or cannot play. These are players who mean a lot to us, but I believe that the girls will take advantage of the chance they get and that we will all give our maximum. We will see how long it will be enough," Marić concluded.
