Six years after winning the inaugural edition of the Nations League, the Portugal national football team has once again won UEFA's youngest national team competition, becoming the first team to do so twice.
The Portuguese defeated Spain in the final in Munich tonight, after penalties (5:3, after regular time and extra time it was 2:2) and took the crown off the "furious", who were the last winners of this competition.
Portugal is the second team to win the Nations League trophy on penalties, after Spain beat Croatia on penalties two years ago. And the Portuguese took excellent penalties tonight - Ramos, Vitinha, Fernandes, Mendes and Neves, who scored a celebratory goal, were all accurate.
On the other side, Merino, Baena and Isco were accurate, while Morata was the tragic one, who was inaccurate in the fourth series.
When it comes to regular time, Spain led twice and Portugal equalized twice.
"Furija" took the lead in the 21st minute when, after a clumsy reaction from the Portuguese defense, Zubimendi scored a goal, and five minutes later Mendes scored a nice goal, leveling the score.
By the end of the half, Spain had taken the lead again, with Oyarzabal scoring in the 45th minute, and in the 61st minute, Cristiano Ronaldo equalized for Portugal, scoring his 138th goal for the national team.
There were no more goals by the end of the regular period and in extra time, so the winner was decided by penalties, in which the Portuguese won a new cup.
