Politicians in the front row, legends in the fourth and fifth, without fans... The celebration of the 100th birthday of the Football Club Buducnost was supposed to be a spectacle, but in the end it turned into a reaction from many who were disappointed with the organization.
After former coaches and players, fans of the Podgorica club "Varvari" also spoke out, and we are publishing their statement in full.
"A hundred years of the greatest sports team in our city and country is an anniversary that not many clubs in the country or the region can boast of. The greatest anniversary in our lives passed like the worst nightmares of all sincere Budućnost fans."
The jubilee has been in preparation for months, the organizers tell us, and we, ironically and with a lot of cynicism, bow to craftsmanship and knowledge, because if months were needed to gather a few hundred people in our main square, we wonder how much time would it take for a few thousand people?
So, we celebrated the anniversary by painting a couple of walking paths, planting some purple flowers, hanging a couple of poles with rickety flags and something like an academy where some protocol was followed that has nothing to do with what the name Budućnost means.
And among those few hundred people and guests, sitting in the front row are politicians and people we mostly didn't know who or what they were? Politicians, institutions, sponsors, they say? So is it more important that the people who gave money for the production, the stage, the producers, and a little marketing sit in the front row, or the people who are responsible for the name 'Budućnost' being what it is, big and powerful?
We are disgusted by the thought of some protocols that position Tonko Miročević and other club legends five steps lower than a sponsor and politician who will be there until the next elections. That, our dear gentlemen from the Administration and the organization of the jubilee, does not at all coincide with sincere support for Buducnost. We are disgusted that you are even bragging and defending the 'commemoration' from the Square.
Those most important people can't find the stadium on a map, let alone talk about how many games they all attended together at that sad gathering this season, nor do they know that the coach is persona non grata - which will very soon, in a democratic atmosphere, fly.
The very thought of not deigning to present plaques to the club's legends speaks volumes about this bizarre organization. Was the ego of the people from the Board and the organization really so big that they didn't want to call a single fan and ask for advice or comment on their ideas?
"Buducnost fans and these experts will survive, and we, the Barbarians, promise a real - city and modern celebration on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of our beloved club, without any of the protocols and nonsense that these great experts indulge in, and to show what true socializing and celebration of a club with which many generations have shed sweat and tears, but certainly also joy, means," the statement from the Buducnost fans reads.
