First appearance at a major football competition. First hope. First historic goal. And - a painful defeat in the final.
The Montenegrin youth team was defeated by home team Romania - 2:1, in its debut at the European Championship, with a goal conceded in the first minute of injury time.
Sadness at the end, but the fight, energy and emotion left a strong impression at the premiere on the biggest stage.
"I'm proud of the team, we played a manly game in terms of physical and tactical aspects, but there were things we could have done better. Our inexperience in the second half was decisive, we failed to calm the game down. It must be known that not all players have a lot of playing time in their clubs, and that is definitely felt in matches like this, against a rival like this, which was supported by the audience," said Bodin Tomašević, a defender for Bologna's young team.
The youth team has two more matches in the group ahead - first against Denmark (Monday at 17 p.m.), then Spain (Thursday, 19 p.m.).
"I'm sure we'll play a better game against Denmark. The defeat against Romania is painful, but it can't affect our confidence - it can only make us stronger," said Tomašević.
