Nenad Vukčević, the coach of the Montenegrin youth football team, said after a convincing defeat to Denmark (5:0) that it was not a "true picture" of the team he leads.
"It's hard to say anything after a defeat like this, Denmark's victory is absolutely deserved. From the first minute, we weren't at the energy level we're used to, we respected our rivals too much, along with our inexperience in such competitions and the fatigue we failed to overcome, which influenced us to enter the game the way we did. We made mistakes that psychologically 'killed' the players and that led to this result," said Vukčević.
Denmark dominated, but the first three goals were conceded after mistakes in possession...
"We stood shallow and tried to use a double block to prevent them from getting into dangerous situations, from going directly to the goal. However, they turned three of our turnovers into goals..."
Vukčević emphasized that this result "must not and cannot undo what these guys have done so far."
"Getting to the EURO is a great success for us and for small Montenegro, and every game at this level is a huge experience and a lesson in how to be better," said Vukčević.
The final match follows (Thursday, 19 p.m.), against the best and toughest rival, Spain.
"Such a tough defeat will certainly have a psychological impact. The one against Romania in the 91st minute also had an impact. When you concede five goals, it has to have an impact, but we will try to get the most out of it against Spain. There will be changes, a lot of players are tired. We will play like men, try to correct some things as much as possible. Spain is the best in the group, there are 40.000 footballers in this age group alone, so just imagine what kind of selection they can make," said Vukčević and concluded:
"Let's move on, with our heads held high. We are proud of this generation and we will try to be at a higher level in the last match than we were against Denmark."
