The president of the Sutjeska football club, Boris Rašković, resigned from his position today.
In a statement submitted to "Vijesti", Rašković emphasized that his arrival at the club was not politically motivated, and that he was invited to, based on his managerial experience, help the club return to healthy foundations.
Rašković said that in the past six months they managed to stabilize the team, rationalize costs, organize the infrastructure and finish the season in 3rd place, thus ensuring a place in the Conference League qualifiers.
A club assembly session was supposed to be held in Nikšić yesterday, at which a new president and board of directors were to be elected. However, the session was not held, but postponed, because fans gathered in front of the stadium near Bistrica, who were against Rašković's dismissal.
Boris Rašković was elected president at the end of December last year, succeeding Marko Mitrović. In the meantime, Sutjeska, in the second half of the season, qualified for the Conference League qualifiers. The team from Nikšić won third place in the MeridianBet First Montenegrin Football League, and qualified for Europe after Petrovac failed to obtain a license.
We are publishing the statement, which Rašković submitted to "Vijesti", in its entirety:
"For the sake of FK Sutjeska, the players, fans and citizens of Nikšić, I am addressing you regarding current events.
My arrival at the club was not politically motivated. I am not a member of any party. I was invited to, based on my managerial experience, help the club return to a healthy foundation. I accepted this under two clear conditions: that politics should not interfere with the operational work of the club, and that the financial support of the founder and long-term sponsor be stable.
Unfortunately, after the recent elections, one of those conditions was violated. I have been conditioned to accept the suppression of the criteria of expertise and responsibility in the face of party interests.
Financial support also did not work as agreed. However, FK Sutjeska, thanks to austerity and rationalization measures, maintained financial stability.
In the past six months, we managed to stabilize the team, rationalize costs, organize the infrastructure (the Montenegrin national team also played at the stadium), and finish the season in 3rd place, which immediately secured a license for the UEFA Conference League.
I am grateful to all the associates who worked in the interest of the club: Nikola Jovović, Dijana Tomašević, Marko Đoković, Dragoslav Albijanić – Španac, Zorka Bulatović and others. It was an honor to be part of this team.
My belief is that sport should be a space of togetherness, above all divisions. FK Sutjeska must remain a place where every citizen of Nikšić feels welcome, equal and proud. If this is not the case, the meaning of the club is lost. Therefore, I inform the public that I am irrevocably resigning from the position of president of the board of directors. I am not leaving to be against anyone, but to remain consistent with the values for which I came to the club. With this act, I want to relieve the club of new divisions.
I sincerely wish the new management all the best in their future work.
"FK Sutjeska will always be my love. That's why I say goodbye with faith in better days," Boris Rašković said in a statement.
