Nenad Lalatović will arrive in Podgorica tomorrow and sign a one-year contract with the Buducnost team.
The coach of a large number of clubs in Serbia, including Red Star, Vojvodina, Čukarički, Radnički from Kragujevac, Radnički from Niš, did not stay anywhere for too long, and he worked the longest in Vojvodina, in the second of three mandates in Novi Sad (2019-21).
It remains to be seen how long they will last under Gorica.
He is also known for his eccentric behavior, frequent arguments with opposing coaches, fans, and club leaders (some of the arguments are hits on YouTube and go beyond the bounds of good taste), but during his coaching career he managed to shake up the teams he led.
That's exactly what recommended him to Budućnost, claims the president of the Podgorica club's Board of Directors, Boško Kovačević.
"We expect Lalatović to give his best, as he has done everywhere he has worked so far. He is known as an excellent motivator and we believe he will be successful in Buducnost. There is little time until the first game, but he is the type of coach who can do the right job in a short time," Kovačević emphasized to RTCG.
Not much time - just ten days before the match with the Armenian champion, Team Noa, in the first round of Champions League qualifying.
Although they were the seed in the draw, Buducnost are not favorites against a team that played in the group stage of the Conference League last year. In a crucial European doubleheader, where passage would completely open the draw and the European door, perhaps even to the group stage of the Conference League, the team from Podgorica will try to surprise - with Lalatovic, instead of the dismissed Ivan Brnovic.
They will try "shock therapy", and Lalatović is a coach of just such, "shock" characteristics - whether positive or negative, will be seen in the days ahead.
The fact that the former Red Star captain has always found a new club as a coach, no matter how short his stay at the previous one, shows that he possesses coaching qualities. What kind of face will he show under Gorica?
The future turned to Lalatović after negotiations with the biggest coaching desire, Miodrag Božović Grof, failed.
It was not even realistic that Božović, a club legend and a Montenegrin coach with one of the most successful biographies (he won the Russian Cup, and also managed the greats from Moscow, Dinamo and Lokomotiva) would take over such a confused Buducnost, and the fact that he agreed to talk gave the club's top people great hope that he would return to the bench of his parent club. As it turned out, it was a false hope...
Podgorica dismissed Ivan Brnović three days ago due to, as they stated, "distorted relations within the club, the coaching staff and the relationship with the fans."
