In the draw for the first round of Champions League qualifying, Buducnost's players were not very lucky. The Montenegrin champion was matched against Armenian side Noa, a team founded only eight years ago, but a team that in a short time had already managed to reach the group stage of the European competition - the Conference League last season.
On the other hand, the Montenegrin champion dreams of making a breakthrough on the European stage, of recording a memorable result in the year it celebrates its centenary. And the path to a good result, it seems, could not have been more difficult, because the Armenian team, after winning the double crown, is also planning to go a step further this season, to reach at least the group stage of the Europa League.
Who could be one step closer to the goal could be revealed today (18 pm our time) after the first match of the first round of qualifications - in Abovyan, a suburb of Yerevan, at a stadium with a capacity of 3.100 spectators.
"We are facing a very difficult match. Considering that this is the first official match for us and for them, neither we nor they can say that we are in top form. I am happy with the atmosphere in the team, we have no injured players. All the players are eagerly awaiting the match," said coach Nenad Lalatović.
Noa is the best team in Armenia and a team that has numerous international players - led by Croatian coach Sandro Perković.
"No need to waste words on Noa. Its budget speaks of quality, but the budget does not play, but the players. We will see on the field whose quality is higher. On paper, Noa's quality is higher, but I believe in my team and in what we have done," Lalatović is clear.
Lalatović took over the team from Ivan Brnović ten days ago.
"I arrived ten days ago, I'm sorry that I only had seven training sessions with the team. It would have been easier if I had arrived earlier, but there's no complaining. I'm satisfied, the players accepted my demands. They will try to fulfill those demands, to give their last atom of strength to achieve a good and favorable result. I expect a good game, for the players to give their maximum and for the better team to win," said the Buducnost coach.
The coach of Buducnost said that he has no alibi, but that he takes responsibility.
"Everyone is motivated, there's no greater motivation than playing in the Champions League qualifiers. There's no alibi, as soon as I came and took over the team, I automatically took responsibility. That's how I've always been and that's how I'll be. I'll be happy if we achieve a result that gives us hope that we can go through in the second leg."
Lalatović is clear - only an aggressive Buducnost can achieve good results.
"We have to expect an aggressive Buducnost. We will see everything else in the match. I am happy that we will have the support of the fans, who will be our 12th player. I hope that with their help we will achieve a positive result," said Lalatović.
Lalatović and his coaching staff analyzed today's rival, and emphasized that Noa is a true example of Armenian football progressing.
"Armenian football is progressing year after year, both club and national team. I am familiar with the Noa players, their quality, I did not watch the Armenian national team, I watched Noa exclusively, I am familiar with the playing staff... Noa is progressing year after year, which is an indicator that good and quality work is being done in Armenia," said Lalatović.
Probable lineup of Budućnost: Mijatović, Grivić, Orahovac, Serikov, Gasević, Djuricković, Strumija, Piščević, Grbić, Ivanović, Bulatović.
The match is refereed by Volen Chinkov from Bulgaria.
