Reputation and history, players who have won trophies on the domestic and international stage, played or are playing for the national team, and great infrastructure - Berane had all the prerequisites to be the flagship of Montenegrin football. Instead, a decade of moves from the Third to the Second Football League.
And finally - decisive action to change that and for Berane to take its rightful place on the football map of Montenegro. But it can't happen overnight...
The club has turned a new leaf ahead of the new season and return to the Second League, appointing former football players who unconditionally love the club they grew up in as sports director and coaches.
- After 17 years, I am returning to my club, with a completely new story because the Berane Municipal Council is now the owner of the club and is 100 percent behind it. The same is true with the new profession, the coach is the club legend Boban Aković, who comes with a successful season in the coaching staff of Sead Babača in Jedinstvo, and Zoran Aković is equally well-known. He will be in charge of the goalkeeper sector. The youth selections will also be led by the local staff Ivica Ćulafić, and that will be our most important part because we want to have an excellent base on which the club will rest. The goal is clear, we want to return the club to its rightful place in the shortest possible time, which is the domestic first league competition - said Admir Adrović, the new sports director of Berane.
He is the first player to score 100 goals in the Montenegrin first division, he played for Buducnost, numerous European and Asian clubs...
- Unfortunately, the great impulse that the celebrated coach Nebojša Jovović gave to Berane a decade ago was not used. The club had a game and results, an audience... There were too many rotations in management and professional positions, unplanned work... That is coming to an end. Of course, we are aware that results are the only measure in football and that success does not come overnight. To begin with, we have brought back several of our players who played in Jezero, Jedinstvo..., but the first goal is to stabilize the club. We will also look at the possibilities of strengthening the team, we will work on that and in the near future we hope to return to the 1st CFL - emphasized Adrović.
Berane's second league return begins with a match against Iskra in Danilovgrad on August 16th.
- In the upcoming season, it is an unrealistic ambition to reach the strongest league. Otrant has the advantage with a large budget and a formed team, while Podgorica and probably Lovćen are competitors. It is up to us to work as hard as possible and be competitive so that we can soon return Berane football to its rightful place. We have all the conditions, and good work will also mean the arrival of sponsors and additional support. It is up to us to work as hard as possible, to encourage a large number of young people to play the most beautiful game. The conditions and infrastructure in Berane are excellent and there are no excuses - concluded Adrović.
